Autonomía del Banco de la República

Colombia a través de la historia, ha venido acogiendo diferentes políticas monetarias, a partir de la reforma constitucional de 1991, dentro de un proceso económico de monetarización, adoptó el proceso de Banca central utónoma, y creó el Banco de la República, que asumió las funciones delegadas; el poder adquisitivo de la moneda, capacidad de controlar la inflación, y la misión del papel moneda, entre otros. Generando un cambio en su organización y otorgándole autonomía administrativa, técnica y financiera, con un régimen especial de carácter público, en efecto, el Banco no se ubica por fuera del Estado, puesto que su máxima autoridad es el Gobierno.
