La teoría comunicacional del derecho sostiene que todo ordenamiento jurídico representa una perspectiva textual para entender y valorar el conjunto del mundo jurídico. El carácter perspectivista del ordenamiento no sólo implica que desde él se “ve” la realidad exterior en escorzo, a través del texto ordinamental. Significa también que el ordenamiento "se ve" a sí mismo y "decide" desarrollarse como perspectiva a golpe de decisión. Hay que distinguir, por tanto, entre perspectivismo externo y perspectivismo interno. El sistema hace explícita la perspectiva ordinamental. El mundo jurídico es plural. Frente al monismo, característico de la teoría del derecho natural y asimismo de la Escuela vienesa, que conciben el derecho como un orden unitario que se despliega en momentos varios, la teoría comunicacional afirma la tesis de la pluralidad de ordenamientos, cada uno de los cuales constituye una perspectiva para enjuiciar los actos humanos. De ahí la necesidad de subrayar el principio de relatividad en el derecho.
