This paper discusses the political foundation of freedom in Colombia, by reconstructing the analytical division between State models to recognize the relationship between freedom and the enforcement of the law. We study the three State models proposed by Mir Puig to identify their characteristics. Based on the differentiation between the three models, we answer the question of which of the models corresponds to the construction of the Colombian State, according to its constitutional and legal development. Finally, we reflect on the freedom of citizens and the role of the State as guardian for the protection and fulfillment of their rights as a priority and institutional objective.
