Abstract

A review of the literature is carried out on the relationship between autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and social cognition (CS), which allows us to understand the alterations in social communication in autism. 50 articles of empirical studies published in different databases between 2010-2021 were selected. The results were ordered and categorized based on relational concepts through the review of the state of the art, finding that the research consulted converges on CS alterations in ASD; Other studies present instruments for the evaluation of SC and interventions on it, seeking to improve communication skills and competencies in autism. The alterations in CS and theory of mind (ToM) in the ASD population are confirmed. More studies on the design and implementation of interventions aimed at improving CS in this population and more studies in Latin America are lacking.
