The purpose of the study was to analyze the psychometric properties of the Wender Utah Rating Scale in middle and high school students from Chiapas, Mexico, which evaluates areas such as attentional difficulties, hyperactivity, impulsivity, behavioral and subjective problems, of which there are no similar instruments for this type of population in this region of the country. For this purpose, a sample of 3,436 students was obtained, 962 (28%) at the secondary level and 2,474 (72%) at the high school level from Chiapas, Mexico. The Spanish version of the 25-item Wender Utah Rating Scale (WURS) was applied to these students An exploratory factor analysis was carried out with extraction by factoring of principal axes and Varimax rotation, analysis of internal consistency through Cronbach's Alpha coefficient and confirmatory factor analysis with extraction by maximum likelihood. Among the results we find that the internal consistency of the global scale (α=.967) is satisfactory. Principal axes analysis and factor rotation through the Varimax method, evidenced an ordering of two factors with eigenvalues greater than one (subjective problems and attentional difficulties and impulsivity, hyperactivity and behavioral disorder). The instrument evaluated shows a high internal consistency through Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient, while Barlett’s sphericity test corroborated the relevance of factor analysis, with an ordering of two factors that explain 62.11% of the variance. The WURS-25 is a reliable and valid instrument for its application in adolescents from Chiapas, Mexico and similar contexts.
